Trip to CRANS MONTANA in Valais – Switzerland

Valais is one of the 26 cantons in Switzerland. Capital is Sion but the region is well known for its famous places like Zermatt, Matterhorn or Crans Montana. It is a french speaking region with plenty of sunny days. You can find here valleys with the vineyards and on the other hand majestic mountains with the crystal clear alpine lakes.  Valais is home of variety of animals. Very typical animals are Black nose sheep, goats or Saint Bernard dogs. Valais is a popular destination for skiing in the winter but during summer it is absolutely perfect for everyone who likes blue sky and pure nature!

HERE ARE MY TOP INTERESTING PLACES:

CRANS MONTANA – is a fantastic and popular city in the region and one of the most comfortable and beautiful places for accommodation in one of many hotels. There are plenty of cozy restaurants and bars and also luxury shops.

What you can do here?

  •  swim in the small lake
  •  hike – you can choose many trails from 280km 
  • discover special cycling – mountain biking or racing as well
  • play golf – well known golf resort with unforgettable views to the mountains around.  The resort hosts the European Masters golf Tournament every September
  • skiing in the winter

SION – a historical city which is a ideal starting point for exploring some interesting places in this area like for example, the vineyard trail  (summer, autumn) or in apricot trail (spring).

ZERMATT – is a famous car free city and has a great ski resort in the winter and is a popular place for hiking in the summer. The visitors have two different sides- ancient traditions on one side while on the contrary modern tourism. If you like history don’t miss Matterhorn Museum. 

MATTERHORN – here is the highest cable car station in Europe – 3.883 m and offer 365 days a year open SKI ARENA with stunning views of the Alps! It is really a SKI paradise.

Great St. Bernard Pass, Pointe de la Plaine Morte 2 927m or beautiful Chateau de Tourbillon…

MY TIP it is easy to walk around the lake – Lac Tseuzier 1 778m- everyone loves the stunning views and rest close to the magic waterfalls in one of the many picnic spots.  

Are you hungry or thirsty? Canton Valais offers many local recipes! Everyone loves Valais Platter with a variety of local dried hams, Cheese Fondue with dried meat, Raclette and Valaisian Cordon Bleu. The Region also produces very good white vine and fruit brandy – abricotine (from apricotes) and Williamine (from pears).

    When I saw the Sion valley from the train above, I wondered to see such a big straight road go through the middle of the valley.
    To my question, other passenger told me that that is a jet fighter’s runway. And taught me, the inside of that mountain behind,
    there is an underground banker enough for 100,000 people to stay. They prepared for the nuke war too.

    Such a marvelous place to be, Kamila. I like how calm it looks, not quite evidently touristic or competing with its natural and rural beauty.I find somehow strange that the highest cable station in Europe is about the same altitude of the city in which I born and grew up.
