Postcard from Switzerland – Zermatt

Are you looking for a relaxing summer holidays in Switzerland.  Do you like observing mountains and the valley’s crystal lakes?

I can warmly recommend you a beautiful place, in the city of Zermatt with almost 6 thousands residents we will find Swiss Alps, in canton Valais.

Zermatt is Europe’s highest ski resort. And one of the most popular sports centrum in Switzerland. Celebrities such Elton John, Nicol Kidman, Robbie Williams also love this beautiful place. And Theodore Roosevelt and Winston Churchill climbed here as well.

The small city has a typical wooden architecture in the old town. Everyone likes the special ambiance with the view to pyramid-shaped Matterhorn (4.478m), which is one of the iconic Mounts in Switzerland.

Good to know: ancient x modern tourism – we observed every mornings and afternoons “tradition goat’s procession” on the main street. Zermatt is car free! The cars must be parked 5 km away in Tasch (special parking garage). From there, mostly tourists use the train to get to Zermatt.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF THINGS YOU CAN DO THERE:

  • Hiking x skiing and snowboarding in the winter
  • Climbing
  • Mountain biking
  • Alpine crossing
  • Visiting Museum of history
  • Relaxing

HERE ARE MY TOP MUST SEE:

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise – is really a PARADISE. This is the highest cable car station in Europe (3.883 m). The visitors can observe impressive Alps in Switzerland, France and Italy. The new restaurant offers good food with panoramic view.  Good information for ski lovers – the Ski Arena is open 365 days a year.

5 Lakes Walk – that is a breathtaking tour where you can admire the beauty glaciers lakes with the majestic Matterhorn in the background.

Matterhorn Museum – represents authentic exposition from Valaisian village life and special history of mountaineering.

MY TIP

Bahnhofstrasse is the main street  – there are plenty of small shops, pubs and restaurants. In the winter, there also is a public square for ice-skating and curling. In the local restaurants you can taste a typical Raclette du Valais or Fondue from local cheese, dried meets with local bread, delicate wine from Valais and Swiss chocolate.

I wish you a save and an unforgettable journey!

An incredible adventure – this is a place I’d love to see, especially the majestic Matterhorn 🙂 It has been a dream since I was a kid at Disneyland in LA, and the Matterhorn was simply magical in reproduction there that I wanted to see the real thing! Great series of photos, beauty everywhere. Take care, Kamila, and safe travels.

I have heard a lot about Zermatt. And the Matterhorn. Though I associate both more with winter. Now the Alps are gorgeous in the summer too.
So I see you have managed to travel a bit? 👍🏻
    Stay safe Kamila.

We had a house in the outskirts of Zermatt and must say, it’s much nicer in winter than it is in summer. The big disadvantage are the masses of tourists there – best is November.
    All the best
