Discover the Netherlands

The Netherlands is much more than just Amsterdam – let’s discover another magical cities and places!

HERE ARE MY TOP PLACES

AMERSFOORT – is a beautiful historical city in the province of Utrecht. The city was important centrum of the textile and brewery industry in the Middle Ages.  You can visit the birthplace house of famous painter Piet Mondrian. KOPELPOORT is the most interesting and original historical “watergate” building.

DELFT – that is really popular tourist destination in the province of South Holland. The city has amazing history – from rural village to important port city (also home of the Dutch East India company). The center of famous painter J. Vermeer is really interesting. But what is the most special here? Almost everybody knows beautiful Delft Blue ceramic pottery. Do not miss the visit of the factory.

ENKHUIZEN – you cannot believe that his picturesque small city in the province of North Holland was in 17th century one of the most important harbour cities in the Netherlands! DROMMEDARIS is the oldest building from 1540. If the weather is nice you can take a boat trip.

LEIDEN – is rich culture centrum with the oldest university in the Netherlands. Rembrandt – one of the best and famous painters from golden age was born and educated here! Do not miss the really nice Botanical garden.

s’-HERTOGENBOSCH (Den Bosch) – no doubt is one of the oldest and amazing medieval cities in the Netherlands! You shall visit the impressive Saint John’s Cathedral and unique Jheronimus Bosch Art Center… or just enjoy a coffee with popular chocolate ball in one of the Caffe and take a boat trip through city canals …

AND MY PERSONAL TIP – is the adventure in two symbolic natural places…KINDERDIJK and KEUKENHOF!

KINDERDIJK – is UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE since 1997! The visitors can walk alongside the age-old WINDMILLS and admire how Dutch managed to survive below sea level for so long time with the special pumping and hydraulic technology.

KEUKENHOF – is called “Garden of Europe” and is one of the world’s largest flower gardens.  From March to May you can see more than 7 million bulbs in bloom with a total of 800 varieties of tulips in 32 hectares.  Truly amazing place for everybody who loves spring flowers!

I love Keukenhof and included it in my book, Amanda in Holland. Another great place in Holland is the village of Ootmarsum with art galleries and sculptures in the streets. Your pictures are fabulous. Thanks.

Thank you for this trip down memory lane. I lived in Holland for 3 years as a kid… In Amsterdam. The funny thing is that memories are all b&W. Your Holland is full of colour. I hope you have taken lockdown well. Stay safe.

    Hello.

What a wonderful set of gorgeous photos. Keukenhof. We have only visited Amsterdam and once in
Keukenhof. When we lived on the countryside, we also bought some tulip seeds.

    Enjoy Sunday.

Hi Kamila! How are you surviving this extraordinary year? I love your NL post. I lived in Utrecht way back in 2001. I know it’s changed a lot since then, which I got of glimpse of when I was back there in 2017. Best, Moira
