Do you know which island of Spanish’s Canary Island is the largest? It is Tenerife. The beautiful island with amazing scenery, excellent weather, interesting history, beauty of the sea with excellent conditions for water sports, especially windsurfing is very popular.
MY TOP INTERESTING PLACES – must see !
- TEIDE NATIONAL PARK – (UNESCO heritage) has exceptional volcanic landscape and you can do also trip by cable car (MY TIP) to the TEIDE – PICO 3.718m) – the tallest peak of Spanish!
- LORO PARQUE – (1972) – originally was established as a paradise for parrots! It is the one of the biggest attractions of the Canary Islands, now. The parrot collection is the largest in the world. But good to know also – here is the longest shark tunnel in Europe and the world’s largest indoor penguin exposition. YOU CAN SEE also wonderful shows with the SEA LIONS, DOLPHINS, PARROTS or even ORCA!
- MUSEUM of the HISTORY of TENERIFE – great place for lovers of history – everything about economy and culture life in the island.
- PLAYA de Las AMÉRICAS – is the famous and the biggest beach in the island with golden sand and calm water – ideal place for water SPORTS (snorkeling, jet skiing or boat excursions). If you are a bit romantic you do not miss PLAYA de Las TERESITAS – close to the capital SANTA CRUZ – 1.5km is very popular beach with black volcanic sand. And the palm trees line is beautiful and the beech is really photogenic.
Others interesting places are Punta de TENO Lighthouse or MASCA – the picturesque village and PARQUE GARCÍA SANABRIA – wonderful botanic gardens with fountains and statues…(Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
I warmly recommend you to rent a car and do amazing circle island TOUR!
A FEW WORDS about CUISINE – local cuisine is a mix of traditional Spanish recipes with African and Latin America influences! One of the best traditional dishes is PAPAS ARRUGADAS (wrinkled potatoes) with special MOJO (sauce). If you are fish lover I can recommend CALDERETA – salted fish in special sauce. The TAPAS are very famous and delicious for everybody!! If you are thirsty is really good opportunity try local beer DORADA but house wine or SANGRIA taste also very well.
WHEN is the best TIME to go to TENERIFE? Perfect months are MAY, JUNE, JULY – cool water and fresh breeze. But I think that you can really visit this magic island any time of the year. What are you thinking – maybe is a good TIP for your next TRIP?!

Hey the islands are volcanic right? Was it here that you can pour water into holes in the ground and have steam sprouting out minutes later?

Interesting, I find that ‘Loro Parque’ has some ‘Asian feel’ of it (the design, that is) 🍸

Love the colors in your photos! Before this post, the only thing I know about Tenerife is history’s worst aviation disaster that happened there in the 1970s. It’s such a beautiful island after all.
