If are you looking for an exotic and idyllic holiday – this destination is something for you. What you can expect? An amazing and original trip into the nature – forested mountains, tropical hills with natural vegetation, impressive waterfalls and romantic white-sand beaches on top.
A FEW WORDS to begin with – Langkawi (the Jewel of Kedah) – is an archipelago of 104 islands (478.5 km2) in the Andaman Sea, only 30km off the Malaysian mainland coast. Malaysian government slowly transformed this green and exotic island into a tourist destination and Langkawi was given a World Geopark status by UNESCO in 2007! Today most of its 62.000 inhabitants live in the capital city Kuah.
TOP Things to DO in Langkawi:
- Langkawi Cable Car – promising stunning views over the island and the coast! The cable care ride will bring you all the way up about 708 m above the sea level.
- Pasir Tengkorak Beach – beautiful, white sand beach. Enjoy your relaxing time. This place is really for everybody.
- Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls – real wild nature. Interesting trip for a nice afternoon.
- Langkawi Wildlife Park – that is really amazing and fun place. You can spend nice time amongst wild animals. Here you can feed elephants or touch and wear snakes.
- If you have more free time here are some more tips for you – visit Herbwalk, Rice Museum or Atma Alom Batik Village where you can buy special local souvenirs.
- Pulau Singa Besar was an unforgettable one-day river trip. We enjoyed memorable time on the small boat with our local captain during the day. First we visited scary cave with huge colony of real bats, observed smart monkeys (and they observed us J) before we continued to visit FISHING FARM. In the afternoon we traveled the river again until our captain suddenly stopped the boat again and asked us to remain very calm and wait…. the sky above our heads was clear-blue and…. after a few minutes we could see them coming – majestic and elegant EAGLES (Fish Eagle). They slowly flew so close to us; we could even feed them with small fish that our guide threw on the river. It was really intense and impressive moment!
I suggest you to stay in some nice and friendly local resort on the beach such as ours (you will not have a problem to find one that suits you). Apart of beach, sea and incredible nature all around you, food is something memorable that you will also enjoy on the island. What is real local food? It is a mélange of Indian, Chinese, Indonesian and of course Malay influence. Great experience is in the local night market where you can choose whatever you want! Do you prefer vegetarian food? No problem – I recommend you delicious fried vegetarian noodles with soy sauce. Anything else? Malay chicken and fish balls in special barbecue sauce, was so tasteful!
GOOD TO KNOW – the island has true dry season starting from December until February – good period to celebrate New Year or even Chinese New year few weeks later! We were lucky because we were there in that time and participated on fabulous local celebrations. Are you interested? You still can book your Chinese New Year holiday in there. The year of the GOAT is slowly coming… on February 19, 2015!
I WISH YOU HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙂

Hi Kamila, glad to hear you had a great time in Langkawi and especially that the cable car is still operating. At one time I heard that it stopped operations for a while. Been to Langkawi a few times and we love it as a weekend getaway from Kuala Lumpur 🙂 Happy New Year to you!

Looks like the ideal place to get away from it all… but looking at the cable car gave me the heebee-jeebies as I don’t like heights… I would rather walk through a cave full of bats!
